Perpetuating the Cycle of Life

by Sharda Chaitanya

All the devas and elementals that resided in this tree before it was destroyed (by natural causes, one would assume) have been welcomed back by the many plants that have replaced it.

One of the overarching rules of Feng Shui is that you don't want anything dead in your environment.  That may see obvious, but you'd be surprised by how much of what no longer has life is allowed a place in the average home.

As memorable or as sentimental as they may be, dried flowers from an auspicious or happy day still need to go. Take a nice picture of them when they are fresh, and frame it instead!  It will go much further in enhancing the chi.

Having part of a deceased tree on one's property is all too common.  And not advised from a Feng Shui perspective.  When I was on vacation at a bed and breakfast in Santa Fe a few years back, I saw that they had taken the care to put some life back into a tree truck that was sitting on their premises.  They had put a few Feng Shui items on and around it.  On closer inspection, I noticed a small Ganesha statue inside a tiny nook in the tree.  It was then I realized these folks had done the Feng Shui!

It was a really nice B&B and I felt very comfortable and at home.  I had a memorable hot stone massage at their day spa, and was treated with kindness and respect.  I later came to find out that this little B&B was voted  one of the top 10 day spas by Travel & Leisure magazine.  Now mind you, this was not what one would think of as a particularly high end spot, although not too shabby either.  It was in a large traditional structure (a big house) in the architectural style of the Southwest.  It was not so amazing that it was off the chart, but the fact that it had nonetheless garnered such aplomb by a reputable publication is no small task.

Then I realized that everywhere I turned I saw they had done the appropriate Feng Shui cures and installations.  It was so simple and subtle that, unless you knew what to look for, you would have never noticed anything unusual.  And I barely remember any Chinese chotchkes in the mix!  It is my contention that they created the kind of buzz needed for a successful business because they went the extra step to do the Feng Shui, thus insuring that positive energy be created and maintained.

If you have a dead tree trunk on your property, give it a little infusion of chi.  The tree gnomes will thank you for it!
